Description: In the late 1970s disco music dominated radio airwaves, to the dismay of many rock music fans. To boost attendance, White Sox owner Bill Veeck and Chicago DJ Steve Dahl collaborated to host "Disco Demolition" on July 12, 1979. The plan was to blow up disco records on the field between the games of a double-header. But when the crowd stormed the field, tearing out seats and lighting bonfires, the field was destroyed and the second game was canceled for the first time in Major League Baseball history.
