Subjects: drafting, Creative writing (Elementary education), English language, Children, Writing, literacy, composing
Description: This is book written for teachers, by a local authority advisory teacher for English. It advocates a variety of approaches to drafting fiction and non-fiction: through talk, shared writing, pictures and diagrams, plans and charts, and jigsaw approaches. It was written at a time before the National Literacy Strategy, when a common experience for young writers was to write with little oral preparation, then copy out 'in best'. All the approaches are exemplified by pupils' writing arising from drafting activities in real classrooms, where the focus was on composing. Two example planning frames are included in the appendix.
