Description: Critics regard Solar Pons and his assistant Dr. Lyndon Parker as the greatest successors to Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John H.Watson. Inspired by a letter from Holmes' creator, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, young Derleth went on to write more than 70 stories featuring his flattering creation. The Solar Pons novel and 6 stories recently discovered among the author's paper: by editor Peter Ruber, are a landmark in detective fiction. The Pontine novel, Terror Over London, apparently written in 1930, when Derleth was 20, is an exciting tour-de-force in the tradition of Sax Rohmer, and easily one of the best Solar Pons stories ever written. Two of the short stories were collaborations with sci-fi writer Mack Reynolds. Ruber provides some interesting historical background on these stories and the entire series. These absolutely "final" adventures of Solar Pons are must reading for all mystery buffs.
