Description: Monica Salmond was the sister of Julian and Billy Grenfell, and the daughter of Lord and Lady Desborough. Volunteering for nursing duties in 1914, she worked first in the London Hospital, then moved to the Red Cross hospital in Wimereux, where the work was more absorbing. Her elder brothers were killed on the Western Front in May and July 1915. This book is an account of events during the years from 1914 to 1918. People insert themselves into the book in connection with these events, and only the parts they actually played are recorded. The first time each person is mentioned, the surname is given as it was then—many surnames have changed since then.
