Description: In the last decade, the developing countries have proved that they can compete internationally in exporting manufactured goods, as well as primary products and services. Their exports of manufactures grew by some thirteen percent a year in real terms during the 1970s. Countries at all levels of development have participated in the explosion of trade, and those that have done so have grown more rapidly overall and survived the vicissitudes of the 1970s better than those that did not.
