Description: Gail Landreth and her employer, naturalist Henry Allan, are researching the nesting habits of birds. They park their car on a quiet dirt road at the edge of Florida's Everglades. Beneath a torn bush they find a pin in the shape of the Greek comedy mask. On the back of the pin appears the number '12.' The two are drawn into a mystery that takes them to an abandoned hotel, a disabled tramp steamer, and the strange organization of The Laughing Mask.
