Description: Austen Kittredge recalls his boyhood when, in 1948, at the age of six, his widowed father sent him away to live with his paternal grandparents on their farm in northern Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. He lovingly recalls the county fair, the annual family reunion and Shakespeare performance, and conflicts at the one-room schoolhouse as he grew into manhood.
