Description: This is a biography of Jorge Gaitan Cortes, an architect and urban planner who was Bogota City Councillor in 1958-1961 and Mayor of Bogota in 1961-1966. His was the longest uninterrupted administration of the city in the twentieth century, spanning three presidential periods (Alberto Lleras, Guillermo Valencia and Carlos Lleras). As city councillor and then as mayor, with the help of a highly skilled and dedicated young professionals, Gaitan Cortes brought his knowledge of planning, as well as enormous dedication and probity to the job of mayor. By carefully monitoring the unprecedented growth that the city had already started to experience and would continue for over two decades, his five years in office made a significant contribution to the city's future growth and prosperity.
