Manifeste de Monsieur le duc de Neuers

Manifeste de Monsieur le duc de Neuers

By Carlo I duca de Mantova

Subjects: Politics and government, Pamphlets, Huguenots, History

Description: "The Duc de Nevers was one of the nobles known to French history as one of "les Grands." He possessed immense domains in the center of France and was thus the most noble of nobility in that area. After the Prince de Condé was imprisoned the King accused the Duc de Nevers of reviving the old alliance of rebellion and thus accused him of treason. Here, the Duc de Nevers responds to those charges, in effect saying that if he could trust the King, that is, if he could trust the Marechal d'Ancre, he would willingly submit himself to the King's wishes according to the Treaty of Loudun"--French Political Pamphlets Digital Collection, Brigham Young University.
