Description: The first report of the Independent Expert on the Human Rights Situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, appointed 26 July 2004 with a mandate to provide assistance to the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the field of human rights, to study the evolving situation of human rights and to verify that the Government's obligations in this field are being fulfilled, includes the Independent Expert's observations from two missions to the country carried out in 2004.
