Description: On June 30, 2004, Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich announced the Upper Mississippi River Source Water Protection Initiative, aimed at improving the water quality of the Mississippi River. This initiative, administered by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, will provide direct technical assistance and financial aid over a three year period to twelve Illinois communities that depend on the Mississippi River for their public water supplies.
