Description: In 1887, Elizabeth Cochran Seaman, also known as Nellie Bly, published an expose about New York's infamous mental health institution on Blackwell's Island after having herself intentionally committed undercover. The expose forever changed the way the mental health would be seen in history and began a social movement to advocate for better care throughout the nation.
