Description: Illinois Sex Offender Registry, maintained by the Illinois State Police, was created to provide easy access to publicly available information about persons convicted of sex offenses. The Registry identifies persons who must register as Sex Offenders because of convictions for certain sex offenses and/or crimes against children. Under Illinois law, a person must register as a sex offender if he or she is convicted of one of the following crimes: child pornography, indecent solicitation of a child, sexual exploitation of a child, soliciting for a juvenile prostitute, keeping a place of juvenile prostitution, patronizing a juvenile prostitute, juvenile pimping, exploitation of a child, criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual assault, predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, ritualized abuse of a child, criminal sexual abuse, [and] aggravated criminal sexual abuse. The following crimes also require registration if the victim is a person under 18 years of age and the defendant is not a parent of the victim: kidnapping, aggravated kidnapping, unlawful restraint, aggravated unlawful restraint.
