Description: John Mayer has graduate degrees from McMaster University and Queens University. He has taught in the public school and college systems in Ontario in the late1970s. In 2006, he was approached by McGraw-Hill Ryerson to write a Canadian adaptation of Alan Bluman, Elementary Statistics, now in its 8th edition. The rationale was the need to provide a Canadian perspective to statistical concepts to better engage students in learning statistics. McGraw-Hill requested not only Canadian regions to be illustrated in the text materials but also, Canadian language and spelling, Canadian themes, and most important Canadian metric units applied throughout the text. Now in its 2nd edition, 2011, the Bluman/Mayer Elementary Statistics text has been adopted in many colleges and universities across Canada. Since 1979, he has been an instructor at SAIT and currently, works for the Centre for Academic Learner Services.
