Description: Kate Groen and Efrem Chaudoir develop an intense relationship in a high-stress situation. They are the only two prisoners in a small jail during the Gulf War. Kate, an ambitious journalist, wants to get a story, and Efrem is a lieutenant in the army. They never see each other until they escape, and after they are rescued, the feelings between them grow stronger. Efrem is married, but plans to divorce, until he finds out that his wife is pregnant. Vowing to get over him, Kate starts a relationship with kind and understanding Gordon. On assignment in Kosovo, she finds herself trying to save a group of orphaned Muslim children, and Efrem comes to the rescue. He is now divorced, but she will not abandon Gordon because he is ill. Fate is not about to give up on this couple, however, as they find themselves together in Afghanistan as Kate searches for a soldier who is missing in action.
