Description: This is a dictionary of the Meskwaki language, a member of the Algonquian langugage family spoken in Tama County, Iowa. It is a preliminary documentation of the words of the older form of the language used in writings by native speakers from the early twentieth century, including William Jones, and the collection of manuscripts written for Truman Michelson of the Bureau of American Ethnology. The name Meskwaki (earlier spelled Mesquakie) replaces the historical name Fox. The full official name of the people who speak Meskwaki is the Sac and Fox Tribe of the Mississippi in Iowa.--Publisher.
