This renamed 1843 edition is virtually a reprint of just volume two of the two-volume 1838 edition, and reproduced only the lithograph technical drawings of steam engines and boilers (mostly marine, but some locomotive and stationary) and steamships of the period c.1823 to 1837. Tredgold's work is the main source of technical information about steam engines for the period.
