Enrico Caruso. Deuxième partie. (La voix et l'art, les enregistrements) Étude physique, phonétique, linguistique et esthétique.
By Jean-Pierre Mouchon
Subjects: craftsmanship, vocal technique, history, interpretation, linguistic abilities and disabilities
Description: This is the third and last volume of Jean-Pierre Mouchon's dissertation on tenor Enrico Caruso. It deals, as written in the title, with Caruso's voice and art, and recordings. The author, after analysing the voice from a scientific point of view (power, range, vibrato), explains the artist's technique and his bewitching hold over his audiences. Caruso's linguistic abilities and disabilities to master modern languages are also examined. The greater part of the book is dedicated to the recordings of Caruso which are commented on from a technical and aesthetic point of view. The words of the songs and arias are given as well as the different pitches adopted by the great tenor. There are also a double index of names and titles, and a complementary bibliography to volume II. The book is illustrated with numerous pictures, reviews, and even letters of Caruso.
