Pill ar and stall mining subsidence in the South Wales Coalfield

By David Martel Hughes

Subjects: construction, South Wales, subsidence, shallow mining

Description: An examination of construction hazards associated with historical underground mining in the South Wales Coalfield area. Prior to nationalisation of the coal extraction industry in the UK all mining had not been mapped. This thesis examined the risk of subsidence and structural problems associated with construction projects in this area and came up with a series of maps and proposals for zones within this area to consider before any building project was begun.
